Oxytocin in Huntington’s Disease and ALS-FTD

The journal Frontiers in Molecular Neuroscience spotlights a comprehensive review titled “Oxytocin in Huntington’s disease and the spectrum of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis–frontotemporal dementia” by Bergh et al. The article shares compelling evidence implicating oxytocin—central to social cognition and emotional regulation—in the early, non-motor manifestations of Huntington’s disease (HD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

These findings point to the therapeutic relevance of the oxytocin system: restoring oxytocin signaling may offer a promising strategy to address social, emotional, and psychiatric symptoms that often appear early in HD and related disorders.
